Welcome to MaiFriends!
Montulet en Partners B.V. (“MaiFriends”, “we”, “us”, and/or “our”) operates the MaiFriends mobile application for Android (the “App”), the informational website www.maifriends.app and its subdomains (the “Website”), and other related services (collectively, the “Services”).
We are committed to protecting your privacy. This Privacy Policy describes how we collect, store, use, and share information through our Services.
We care about the protection and confidentiality of your information. When you use the Apps, you may provide information during your conversations with your MaiFriends AI companion. We process this information only as described in this Privacy Policy, for example to enable individualized and safe conversations and interactions with your AI companion and to keep relevant context for your experience. We may also use information about your visits to our Website to promote our Services, but we will never use or disclose the content of your MaiFriends conversations for marketing or advertising purposes.
Additionally, chat content is only used to improve MaiFriends’s AI models if you explicitly opt in (you can withdraw consent at any time in Settings).
Any terms we use in this Policy without defining them have the meanings given in our Terms of Service.
If you have any questions, please contact us at support@maifriends.app
1. What information we collect
When you use our Services, we collect certain information about you to provide and improve your experience with MaiFriends.
A. Information you provide
Through your use of the Services, you may provide us with the following information:
- Account information. This includes your email address and encrypted password. If you choose to log in using another service, such as Sign in with Google or Sign in with Apple, we receive information about the service you used to log in and—depending on your chosen account settings—details about you, such as your name, email address, and unique identifiers.
- Profile information. During registration we ask you to confirm that you are at least 18 years old. You may also choose to add optional information such as a username or display name inside the App.
- Messages and content. This includes the messages you send and receive through the Apps, including facts or opinions you share, as well as any photos, emojis, or other media you provide. We process these messages so your MaiFriends companion can respond and maintain context across your conversations.
- Interests and preferences. You may select chat or conversation topics, companion personalities, or interaction styles. We also learn about your preferences over time through your interactions with the Services to personalize your conversations and unlock features that fit your interests.
- Payments, transactions, and rewards. When you make purchases or subscribe through the Apps, transactions are handled by third-party processors such as Apple App Store, Google Play, and RevenueCat. We receive limited metadata about your purchase (plan, price, date, renewal status, and currency) to manage your subscription, Hearts balance, XP progression, and rewards. We do not collect or store full credit-card details.
B. Information we collect automatically
We automatically log the following information about your device, network, and interactions over time with our Services and communications:
- Device and network data. This includes your device type and model, operating system, browser type, IP address, device identifiers, language settings, mobile carrier, and general location information such as country or city (we do not collect precise GPS data).
- Usage data. This includes how you use the Services—for example, the screens you view, buttons you tap, in-app features you use, Hearts earned or spent, session duration, and crash logs. This information helps us analyze trends and improve functionality.
- Diagnostics and performance. We use analytics and diagnostic tools (such as Firebase, Google Analytics, Crashlytics, and RevenueCat) to monitor performance, detect errors, and measure engagement.
- Advertising and attribution data. Where applicable, our advertising or measurement partners may collect limited technical data (such as advertising ID, device type, and interactions with promotional content) to help us understand how new users discover MaiFriends. These partners never have access to your private chat messages or media content.
We use technologies such as cookies, local
storage, and third-party SDKs (including Supabase, Google Analytics,
Crashlytics, RevenueCat) to analyze usage, deliver core functionality, and
improve performance. You can learn more or manage your preferences in our
Cookie Policy or your device settings.
C. AI data processing
When you chat with MaiFriends, your messages are securely transmitted to our AI infrastructure and trusted model providers, including OpenRouter and RunPod, to generate personalized responses.
Temporary logs are retained for short periods to maintain context and ensure quality and security.
If you choose to opt in under Settings, anonymized and aggregated chat data may also be used to improve MaiFriends’s language models.
You can withdraw this consent at any time.
D. Face, voice, and sensor data (future use)
If you later enable features involving your camera, microphone, or sensors (for example, voice chat or augmented-reality experiences), any such data will be processed on-device and will not leave your device unless you give explicit permission.
Raw face or voice data is never stored or shared by MaiFriends.

All data transmitted between your device and our servers is encrypted in transit using Secure Socket Layer (SSL) / Transport Layer Security (TLS).
Stored data is maintained on secure servers operated by our trusted partners, including Supabase (database and storage) and RunPod or OpenRouter (AI processing infrastructure).
Access to stored data is restricted by multi-layered security controls, including firewalls, encryption, role-based permissions, and authentication protocols.
We also apply regular monitoring, logging, and vulnerability testing to detect potential security issues.
Access to any personal data is limited to authorized personnel and service providers who require it to perform their duties and are bound by confidentiality obligations.
While we make reasonable commercial efforts to protect your data, no system, transmission, or storage technology can be guaranteed to be 100% secure.

5. where we store your information
Our Services are operated from the Netherlands and supported by trusted infrastructure providers located in the European Union and the United States.
If you are located outside the EU, please be aware that the information you provide to us may be transferred to, stored, and processed in countries where privacy laws may not offer the same level of protection as those in your jurisdiction.
Where we transfer personal data outside the European Economic Area (EEA)—for example to the United States through providers such as OpenRouter, RunPod, Supabase, or RevenueCat—we ensure that appropriate safeguards are in place, such as:
- Standard Contractual Clauses (SCCs) approved by the European Commission, or
- other legally recognized mechanisms that provide equivalent data protection.
By using our Services, you acknowledge and agree that your data may be transferred and processed in these jurisdictions in accordance with this Privacy Policy.
6. Data retention
We retain your personal information only for as long as necessary to fulfill the purposes for which it was collected, including maintaining your account, providing the Services, complying with legal obligations, and resolving disputes.
To determine how long we keep personal information, we consider:
- the type, sensitivity, and purpose of the information;
- the potential risk of harm from unauthorized use or disclosure;
- whether we can achieve the same purpose through shorter retention or anonymization; and
- legal, accounting, or regulatory requirements that may apply.
In practice:
- Account data (such as email and login credentials) are retained for as long as your account remains active.
- Chat history and AI interactions are retained while your account is active to provide continuity and personalization. If you delete your account, this data is permanently erased from active systems within a reasonable period.
- Analytics and diagnostic data may be stored in aggregate or anonymized form for internal research and service improvement.
- Payment and subscription records are retained only as required by law or for legitimate business accounting.
Once data is no longer needed for these purposes, it is securely deleted or anonymized so that it can no longer be linked to you.
7. Your rights and choises
Depending on where you live and how you use our Services, you have various rights regarding your personal information.
We provide several ways for you to exercise control over your data and communications.

We work with third-party analytics and advertising partners (e.g., Google Analytics, Firebase, or other ad networks) that may use cookies and similar technologies to collect limited information about your interactions with our Website and App.
This sharing may be considered “targeted advertising” or “data sharing” under applicable laws.
You can opt out of these disclosures by:

You may also request deletion of sensitive or personal data at any time, as described below.

- Receive your data in a portable, machine-readable format (data portability).
To make such a request, please contact us at support@maifriends.app.
We may need to verify your identity before fulfilling your request.
In some regions (for example, under CCPA or GDPR), you may also authorize an agent to act on your behalf.
We will process requests in accordance with applicable data-protection laws and respond without undue delay.
You will never be discriminated against for exercising your privacy rights.
If you are not satisfied with our response, EU/EEA and UK residents may contact their local Data Protection Authority for further assistance.
